Individual Counselling

Why Do People Come To Therapy?


Individuals come to therapy for a number of reasons.  Often it is to deal with past issues & traumas, to address current concerns that cause them too much stress, to learn better life coping skills, to gain confidence, &/or to gain better understanding of themselves through exploring their family of origin.  The main motivator for people, however, is typically the need to reduce emotional pain & suffering in their lives.   Others simply see the benefit in therapy & view it as an investment towards their personal growth.   No matter what your reasons are, Jennifer McDermott will provide an atmosphere where you can feel heard & understood.

Therapy will progress at the pace in which you feel comfortable.  We will explore your concerns & together establish goals for your sessions.   Using your unique strengths, skills & resources we will look at strategies to overcome your obstacles related to mental health & wellness.   Wellness incorporates mental, emotional, spiritual, social, & physical aspects to your life.   Within this context, a number of therapeutic techniques & approaches will be utilized to help you build coping skills, identify solutions, as well as make appropriate decisions related to your life.
