Jennifer McDermott is an experienced therapist providing counselling services for over 20 years. She is a Registered Social Worker who holds a Masters in Counselling Psychology. She has worked with children, youths & adults in various roles providing individual, couple, family & group therapy. Jennifer takes great pleasure in supporting & assisting her clients to achieve their goals related to mental health & well-being. Since 2003, she has worked in private practice, as well as a number of community agencies, such as Simcoe Outreach Services (SOS) & the Canadian Mental Health Association (CMHA). Through these experiences, Jennifer has gained extensive experience in the areas of family & marriage therapy, depression & anxiety, addictions, & concurrent disorders (which refers to the presence of both a mental health issue(s) plus substance misuse). |
In her private practice, Jennifer works with couples and families on communication, conflict, and boundaries, with the goal of fostering healthier, more respectful relationships at home. She also has a particular interest in supporting individuals and families coping with infertility, drawing on her own lived experience to provide informed, compassionate care.
Jennifer uses a client‑centred, holistic approach and integrates a range of evidence‑informed therapies, including cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT), dialectical behaviour therapy (DBT) and acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT). She works carefully to listen and truly understand each person’s goals, considering the whole person and emphasizing balance as a key part of emotional health and sustainable change.
She strives to meet her clients with significant sensitivity, clarity and compassion, and adheres to established codes of ethics and standards of practice as a member of the Ontario College of Social Workers and Social Service Workers (OCSWSSW) and the Ontario Association of Mental Health Professionals (OAMHP).
